Formulate a professional development goal based the needs that you have identified. This goal should be:
measurable/observable
should lead to improvement of teaching, student achievement, and/or improvement of learning environment.
should describe new knowledge or skills that you will acquire and how that knowledge/skill will affect the school/district setting.
linked to applicable Rhode Island Beginning Teacher Standards and elements, e.g. RIBTS 2.4.
In the space below describe you goal and plan in two paragraphs.
In the first paragraph, describe a rationale your professional development goal. This rationale should describe the goal, the personal need that it will address, and how this goal benefits your students and your perspective school.
I. Professional Development Goal
With gaining more experience within the field of technology I will be able to gain more knowledge and develop further ideas that can be implemented in my classroom. As I am learning more within the field of technology, these new practices will allow for more student interactions within their own learning styles. These new student experiences will allow for them to see how current advancements relate to the content of the course, as well as how these strategies can be used to in other content areas. More hands on learning opportunities will allow students to be further engaged each day when attending class. This engagement will allow students to be more aware of the available technology that can aid in their learning experiences in the field of science. Connecting science principles in new innovative ways through various technology experiences will also allow students to understand the content of the course in alternative viewpoints. This will also be a school wide advantage because these new ways for instructing content to students may stimulate cross curriculum lessons, as well as introduce teachers to become more aware of potential technological methods they can use within their own classrooms.
Now that you have a PD goal, think about what type of learning opportunities you will participate in to address your needs. Use these links to investigate learning options:
Based on what you have found out, write a 1-2 paragraph narrative outlining at least two ways (PD categories) you will engage in engage in by the end of your first year of teaching. For each activity, explain how you think it will address the need that you have identified.
II. Professional Development Plan
Within my beginning years of teaching, continuing my own education is a goal that I will accomplish to assist in my own professional growth. As I continue to expand on my knowledge within an education program, this individual professional learning opportunity will not only benefit myself, but also the students and colleagues with whom I interact with on an everyday basis. Continuing my own learning experience will have a significant impact on my own science classroom. Continuously sharpening education strategies for improving instruction will be beneficial within my personal planning process, the facilitation of activities, as well as how science topics are presented within my classroom. Another goal I will accomplish within my beginning career in education will be participating in professional development opportunities that highlight successful methods that are being implemented in other science and technology classrooms that I can incorporate into my own classroom doors.
